March is National Crochet Month. Is your LYS crocheter-friendly?

March 18th, 2004 · 7 Comments · Uncategorized

How appropriate that there has been such a flurry of crochet blogging activity during March, which is National Crochet Month in the States. The Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) is celebrating National Crochet Month as well as their 10th anniversary.

Have you ever been to a local yarn shop (LYS) that caters to knitters only? Are they less-than-friendly to crocheters or clueless about crochet? On CGOA’s Celebrate Crochet page, you can download a one-page flyer (in pdf format), 30 Ways to Promote Crochet in Your Store. Why not print this out and mail it to a lovely LYS that could be even lovelier if they had crochet supplies, patterns, and friendly advice. Heck, if you’re gutsy enough, you could hand deliver it.

*sniff sniff* I don’t have a LYS. Just Walmart and Michaels and a Hobby Lobby about 40 miles from here. *sigh*

I’d give anything to have grumpy knit shop employees grump at me. *sigh*

Hello, it’s me again. I know I just posted, but I just went and put the buttons you made for Vera and Julie on my blog. I know you made the buttons for them, but I just have to tell you they look like they were made to go with my blog. The Vera’s background matches my font, and the colors in Julie’s matches my background and trimmings. :)

Oh, my! They do match your blog! What an amazing coincidence! :-)

Sorry you have no LYS, Julie! :-( I am very lucky to have an LYS that is crocheter friendly. LYS’s are hard to come by in most places.

I also buy yarn at two Walmarts (15 minutes away and 30 min), Hancock Fabrics (30 min), Michaels (30 min), and online at Beehive Wool Shop, Herrschners, and Mary Maxim.

There are two LYS close to me that are “NOT” crochet friendly, and I did send each of them a flyer. I might just wait a while and go back to see if there are any changes. Not that I think getting a flyer can change the world, but you never know. It only needs to get one person thinking (if that person owns a yarn shop). :)

OMG!! That so happened to me. I went to a shop and they were not nice about crochet at all. I wanted to tell them they should see the stuff I make!! They would change there minds in a heartbeat!! I will definitely print this page and post it in my studio!!

    Thanks, Ren
