Love Dem Lima Beans

August 9th, 2006 · Uncategorized

Amy tagged me with the Five Things meme…

Five things in my freezer:
family size bag of lima beans, package of whole wheat pitas, cubes of homemade parsley pesto, container of homemade chicken stock, our last package rockfish.

Five things in my closet: red paisley J. Jill skirt, basic black George pants, cream-colored Birkenstock sandals, picnic backpack, boxes of old photos.

Five things in my car: infant car seat, doggie crate, doggie ramp, microfiber cleaning cloth, nail clippers.

Five things in my purse: Chapstick All Natural, tiny copper-colored hairbrush, South Carolina quarter, Wal-Mart receipt, bright blue pen with black ink.

Five things in my wallet: Books-A-Million discount card, AAA card, baggage claim check stickers, REI membership number sticker, attorney’s business card.

Five people I’m tagging: If you want to do this meme, consider yourself tagged! If you do it, I would be oh-so-tickled if you let me know in my comments!

Crocheted Flower Scrubbies

July 6th, 2006 · Crochet

I crocheted scrubbies and pins in April of last year for a flower swap at Crochetville.

These daisy dish scrubbies were fun to make. I liked the way the cupped petals took shape. I must admit, by the time I got to the third one, I didn’t think I’d ever make it to the last petal!

Pattern: Flower Scrubbies (PDF file). (You must logged in to FreePatterns.com to download the pattern. It’s free to join.) Designed by Denise Rothberg, published in Annie’s Favorite Crochet Magazine (October 2002), and now available on FreePatterns.com.

Yarn: Peaches & Creme; colors: 10 (Yellow), 3 (Cream), and 1 (White); 4-ply, worsted weight, 100% cotton.

It’s funny, I distinctly remember where I bought the plastic scrubbies even though they’d been lying around in my craft supplies for some time: the yellow ones came from a corner grocery at the beach and the red one from a dollar store.

The trick was evenly spacing the first round, since scrubbies aren’t always the same size. I used stitch markers to divide them into quarters. Is that obsessive?

The one with the red center is my favorite color combo, so it’s getting a close-up.

Oh, and how can I not plug the site that helped me find this pattern? CrochetPatternCentral.com, always my first stop for free pattern searching!

Whoops, mommy has been paged! (That would be me.) (I’m tellin’ ya, he should’ve slept for at least another 45 minutes!) So I’m outta time for now. I’ll be back another day with the flower pins!

Crochet Stitch Markers

June 23rd, 2006 · Uncategorized

I made these stitch markers (my first!) back in October of last year for a stitch marker swap at Crochetville.

crochet stitch markers - blue

crochet stitch markers - pink

I packaged them in organza favor bags, which I then put in these sweet little black boxes I found at Target. I love finding and using special packaging for gifts.

What fun! I probably still wouldn’t have gotten around to trying my hand at stitch markers if I hadn’t joined a swap.

Alive and Kicking

June 21st, 2006 · Uncategorized

Has it really been that long since my last post? Ha, don’t answer that! Well, I think it’s about time for me to get back to blogging. I haven’t been crocheting much (um, hardly at all!) lately. But I know I’ve got a stash of never-got-blogged FOs and possibly some other interesting(?) things, so I’ll be rummaging around in the ol’ Tomato Vault to see what I can dig out. Nice to see ya again! *waves*

Perfectest Foot

March 21st, 2006 · Uncategorized

Whose foot is that? I don’t know, but I hear he likes to wear tomato hats.

foot

I’m not sure what I expected all this mom stuff to be like. But I know it wasn’t that I would be totally, completely in love with a tiny little person. Sometimes he is sweet and cooey and lovey like in the magazines. Sometimes he is crying, fussy, and red-faced. Sometimes it is bliss. Sometimes it is insanity. But he has stolen my heart in a way I didn’t know was possible. And that is why I think he has the perfectest foot.
