I have just started making squares for Warm Up America - my local craft store is holding a collection this month. Thanks for a great, simple pattern. I've been looking for ideas different from the basic stitches (that get so boring). So far, I've done one in SC (back loops only), one with 2 rows SC + 1 row DC, and one with a v-stitch cluster. I think this will be next! My only concern is that my paperwork says to avoid designs that are too lacey/holey so that the blankets are extra warm (NE Ohio) - do you think this one would have too many holes?

I used a square with 5 rows of off white "flecked" cotton, blue and brown, off white, blue and brown. It made the most beautiful baby blanket for my neighbor.

I couldn't agree more that this is simple, in fact this was only about my sixth crochet project, so it is a superior teaching pattern.
