Go on, Vera, go on!

Thank you Vera!

I won Vera’s January 6th blog contest. She asked where the line, “Go on, go on, go on,” comes from and who says it. She gave the hint that it is a television show. The answer, of course, is Mrs. Doyle in the Britcom Father Ted. Keep your eye on Vera’s blog because she intends to have more fun contests to help her destash a bit.

I love British sitcoms. Most British TV, actually. I’m a huge Dr. Who fan. Tom Baker, of course. A long, long time ago I crocheted a Dr. Who scarf. I’ll have to dig it out and take a photo.

All that said, I have a confession to make. We do not own a TV.* Neither of us has had one for eight years. We’ve been married for four. Please don’t turn us in to the authorities. ;-)

Seriously though, both of us actually like TV, but a combination of circumstances and various roommates with TVs found us both without ownership of one when we met. It seemed like a good thing, so we kept it that way. We’re not anti-TV. We watch it when we visit friends and family and when we’re at hotels or the beach place. But, believe it or not, it’s kind of nice not to have one in the house.

*Okay, I do have a very, very old 12″ black-and-white I keep tucked away in a closet. I’ve pulled it out three times: Hurricane Floyd, the 2000 election, and 9-11.

Ah – you held out on me! I didn’t think you had a television at all! You sneak!!

(I adore Keeping Up Appearances – if Vera had posted something from that I might have given you a run for your money. :) )

Congrats on winning the contest. Kudos to you for NOT watching TV on a regular basis. It takes real willpower not to become addicted. There are so many great things one can do instead of watching TV. ;-)

    Did you enjoy BallyK? I know that’s more of a dramedy… and Irish… but… ;-)

    Congrats on winning!

And I *wish* we didn’t have a TV sometimes!

Hey, congrats on not having a TV and admitting it! We used to not own a TV when we were first married and it was a blessing (though people thought we were odd when we told them we didn’t have one)! We did end up getting one 2 or 3 years later, and while there’s some redemptive programming on TV, most of it is garbage! So you aren’t missing anything, Donna! Frees up your time for other pleasurable pursuits, doesn’t it, Donna. :) Good for you, girl!

I’ve picked out your prize and it will go out tomorrow.

I watch way too much televison. I try to watch “good tv”–Science Channel, BBC, Bravo, etc, and I get a lot out of it.

Of course I’ve also been known to watch a whole of nothing but football and the NFL Network.

I’m only destashing a little to add more stash :-)
