Yay! A project made with my unraveled yarn. One of Marlo‘s Prayer Pots. Her pattern is easy to follow.
My yarn is very soft, and the pot squished out of shape whenever I touched it. I thought of stiffening it, but didn’t want to lose the softness of the yarn and didn’t know if stiffener would work on that type of yarn anyway. So I followed the instructions at Clothesline Crochet and crocheted both the pot and the lid over some synthetic clothesline I bought at Walmart. The site says 100% cotton clothesline is best, but I can’t imagine where you’d find that. It was easy to do and it worked out really well. It’s still soft to the touch, but the shape is firm.
I used a J hook and followed Marlo’s pattern for the most part. I free-formed the handle (using an I hook) because I wanted it to look pointy, like the original one she made.

I absolutely love it! Definitely going on my “to-do” list. As a matter of fact, I think I have some clothesline in the garage..hmmm….

I love the color of your yarn donna. Glad the pointy lid worked for you. I knew that if I wrote down the instruction for the pointy lid that I would get alot of “huh” emails so I wrote the flat directions. Beautiful work!

Very nice! :) I tried making one, but it was too soft as well. Clothesline Crochet… Why didn’t I think of that!? I made a summer bag with the method before, and it worked quite nicely. I definitely have to copy the way you made this pot! Can I pleeez? :)
